Highlights from the Indo-American Psychiatric Association’s 45th Annual Meeting
As part of PRMS’ ongoing commitment to behavioral health, we invited Dr. Tarak Vasavada, President of the Indo-American Psychiatric Association, to be featured as a guest blogger this month. Dr. Vasavada reflects on his experience attending the 2024 IAPA Annual Meeting in New York City, NY, which PRMS was honored to sponsor as a Platinum Partner.
Afternoon Business Meeting Recap
The 45th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA) took place on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, at the prestigious Rumi Event Space in New York, NY. The Scientific Meeting in the afternoon was a unique opportunity for all, beginning with welcome remarks and continuing with poster presentations from three Member-in-Training (MIT) poster award winners. For the first time, MIT and residency applicants gave oral presentations to the esteemed attendees. Dr. Vani Rao gave an outstanding academician lecture on "Neuropsychiatric Problems After Traumatic Brain Injury," and Dr. Prakash Masand gave a sponsored talk on mood disorder medication. Both presentations were well received, and the session concluded with a business meeting.
Reconnecting and Networking at the IAPA Annual Meeting
The evening program began with members networking and enjoying Indian appetizers, which set a relaxed and enjoyable tone for the rest of the night. The keynote speaker, Sheppard Pratt CEO Dr. Harsh Trivedi, delivered a stimulating presentation on "Authentic Leadership: Navigating a Tumultuous World." The evening concluded with an award ceremony to recognize outstanding contributions, honoring Dr. Vani Rao for the Outstanding Academician Award, Dr. John Johnson for the Outstanding Public Sector Award, Dr. Arun Munjal for the Outstanding IAPA Service Award, and Dr. Rikin Patel from Duke University for the Outstanding Resident Award.
Distinguished Attendees at the IAPA Annual Meeting
IAPA’s Platinum Sponsor, PRMS, also held a raffle drawing for a chance for the members to win prizes. Various dignitaries, including APA President Dr. Petros Levounis, APA President-Elect Dr. Ramaswamy Viswanathan, APA CEO and Medical Director Dr. Saul Levine, Incoming APA CEO Dr. Marketa Wills, and Indian Psychiatric Society President Dr. Laxmikant Rathi attended the meeting.
The evening event concluded with an elegant Indian buffet, and the many attendees enjoyed dancing to Bollywood music late into the night. The highlight of the Annual Meeting was the chance to reconnect with old acquaintances, forge new connections, and commemorate our distinctive culture while actively participating in the APA Annual Meeting. We invite you to attend the meeting next year in Los Angeles.
The event would not have been possible without our Platinum Sponsor, PRMS. We are deeply grateful to PRMS for their unwavering support over the last 15 years, which has been instrumental in making our Annual Meetings a success.
Please enjoy the highlighted pictures from the evening.
