Guest Blog: 2023 IAPA Annual Meeting Reflection
As part of PRMS’ ongoing commitment to behavioral health, we invited Dr. Bhagirathy Sahasranaman, DFAPA, DFAACAP, Immediate Past President of the Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA), to be featured as a guest blogger this month. Dr. Sahasranaman reflects on her experience attending the 2023 IAPA Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA, which PRMS was honored to sponsor.
The Indo-American Psychiatric Association (IAPA) held its Annual Meeting in San Francisco on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at the Marines’ Memorial Club and Hotel. The event comprised of a morning poster competition and scientific session followed by an evening banquet. Both events were very well attended, including by several dignitaries and American Psychiatric Association (APA) leaders.
Several unique posters were on display, presented by residents and fellows, with medals awarded for first, second, and third places. Dr. Rajnish Mago, who was IAPA’s Outstanding Academician Award winner for 2023, presented on the topic, “Simple and Practical Strategies for the Prevention and Management of Common Side Effects.” Dr. Rajiv Radhakrishnan shared “Medical Cannabis-Promises and Perils,” and Dr. Vaishnavi discussed “Transcendental Meditation for the Healthcare Provider.”
The IAPA 2023 Awards were presented during the evening banquet, which was complete with delicious Indian food and live piano music. One of the many highlights of the banquet included a raffle for two prizes – Beats headphones and an Amazon gift card. Both prizes were provided by IAPA’s Platinum Sponsor, PRMS, and the raffle drawing was conducted by Tonya Davies, PRMS Chief Operating Officer, and Angela Alkire, PRMS Director of Claims.
Having served as IAPA’s president from 2021 to 2023, I also had the opportunity at the banquet to pass the leadership baton to Dr. Tarak Vasavada, who will serve as IAPA President from 2023 to 2025.
