Illinois Psychiatric Society 2017 Annual Meeting
On Saturday, January 21, the Illinois Psychiatric Society (IPS) hosted “Government and the Future of Mental Health in Illinois,” its 2017 Annual Meeting and Holiday Party in Chicago. Networking and a cocktail hour kicked off the evening, followed by a member business meeting, welcome from IPS President Dr. Ryan Finkenbine, dinner, keynote speaker and an award presentation.
State Representative Lou Lang was the keynote speaker that evening. Lang serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in the Illinois General Assembly and has been in the Illinois House of Representatives since 1988. During his tenure, Lang “has fought for economic development, working families, civil rights, and health care and Medicaid reform,” as stated on the Cook County Democratic Party website. Lang discussed the importance of mental health and encouraged IPS members to contact him with any questions or comments.
The 2017 Service Award for Excellence in Patient Care was presented to Dr. Peter Alahi. Dr. Alahi is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP). Not only has Dr. Alahi won many teaching and patient care awards, he also supervises and mentors residents at UICOMP. Congratulations Dr. Alahi!
PRMS is honored to have been a sponsor of the 2017 IPS Annual Meeting.
